Before Weaving
Every heirloom rug begins long before the loom is dressed. From pinpointing a color story to hand-spinning the very first skein, Sova’s pre-weaving workflow turns inspiration into ready-to-weave yarn bundles with lab-tested strength and shade accuracy. These early steps lock in the performance, texture, and luminosity you’ll feel underfoot years later - proof that true craftsmanship starts off the loom, not on it.

Design Brief & Moodboard
We translate client goals into sketches and palettes, mapping scale, motif, and ambience before a single yarn is chosen.

CAD & Grid Mapping
Artwork is plotted on millimeter paper or CAD, assigning exact knot counts or tuft paths for flawless replication.

Color Indexing
Each hue receives a Pantone or custom code so dyers can hit the target shade within a ΔE < 1 tolerance.

Fiber Sourcing
We secure long-staple New Zealand wool, mulberry silk, or plant fibers, vetted for micron count and ethical traceability.

Hand-Spinning
Master spinners twist raw fiber into yarn, adjusting twist per inch to balance softness with tensile strength.

Ply & Denier Calibration
Yarns are plied and measured so pile height, weight, and drape match the design spec down to the gram.

Lab-Dip Dye Trials
Small skeins are dyed in micro-batches; the closest match becomes the recipe for full-scale production.

Bulk Skein Dyeing
Final skeins simmer in low-impact, AZO-free dyes, then sun-dry on bamboo poles for even, long-lasting color.

Scouring & Conditioning
A gentle wash removes spinning oils and opens fiber scales, priming yarns to accept the finishing wash later.

QC Strength & Fastness Tests
Yarns undergo pull, rub, and light-fastness tests to ensure they’ll endure decades of foot traffic and UV.

Warp Winding & Loom Dressing
Cotton warps are wound, beamed, and tensioned so the first knot or pass lands on a perfectly true foundation.

Weaving Schedule & Team Briefing
The workshop assigns artisans, sets progress milestones, and establishes mid-weave quality checkpoints.
