Sustainability, Woven In

At Sova, sustainability isn’t an initiative — it’s a philosophy. From the first sketch to the final knot, we approach every rug with care for what it’s made of, how it’s made, and who it’s made for. Our materials are natural and non-toxic, our processes are slow and intentional, and our partners share our commitment to ethical craftsmanship.

Designers today are shaping more than just interiors — you’re shaping how people live, feel, and connect with the spaces around them. That’s why we believe the beauty of a rug should go beyond the surface. With every piece, we offer a quieter kind of luxury — one that honors heritage, supports artisans, and respects the environment.

By choosing Sova, you’re not only curating timeless aesthetics — you’re supporting a design practice that’s more conscious, more responsible, and made to endure. Together, we can create beautiful spaces with lasting meaning.

1. Designing

Every rug begins with a concept — a collaboration between your vision and our design team. We translate inspiration into detailed sketches, color stories, and weaving plans tailored to your project.

2. Carding and Spinning

Raw wool is carefully carded to align the fibers, then hand-spun into yarn — a tactile process that gives each rug its unique character and strength.

3. Dyeing and Drying

Our yarns are dyed in small batches using AZO-free dyes, then dried under the sun to enhance tonal richness and preserve the natural variation that makes each rug one-of-a-kind.

4. Knotting

Artisans hand-knot each rug, one knot at a time, following the mapped design with meticulous care — a single piece can take months to complete.

5. Knot Counting

Every rug undergoes a precise knot-counting process to ensure it meets the design’s density and durability standards, confirming its handcrafted authenticity.

6. Pile Height Checking

We measure and adjust the pile height to ensure uniformity across the rug — this step is crucial for visual balance and tactile comfort.

7. Washing

The rug is thoroughly washed to soften the fibers, enhance its luster, and set the dyes — a process that brings out the richness of both texture and tone.

8. Binding

Edges are carefully bound by hand to protect the structure and maintain a clean, refined finish that complements the overall design.

9. Snipping

Artisans snip the surface by hand to level the pile and sharpen the rug’s details — a finishing touch that brings precision and clarity to the pattern.

10. Embossing

Using fine scissors, we sculpt select motifs into the rug’s surface, creating subtle highs and lows that add dimension, texture, and a sense of quiet luxury.
